Welcome to the Founding Church of Scientology Washington, D.C.

Nearly 50 years ago, the Founding Church of Scientology was established in Washington, D.C..

Today, we can look back proudly at the past five decades. From this beginning, Scientology now encompasses more than 3,200 churches, missions and groups in 154 countries, helping millions around the world.

Washington D.C. has played a pivotal role in this growth. In addition to being the home of the Founding Church, the nation’s capital was also a home to L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Dianetics and Scientology. It is the city to which Mr. Hubbard would continually return throughout the most important formative years of Dianetics and Scientology from the late 1940s to the early 1950s.

The Fraser Mansion was fully renovated and restored, bringing new life to this historical D.C. landmark, as seen here in the reception area. The solid white oak floors and woodwork in this building, handcarved in 1890, were fully brought back to their original beauty.

The stained glass windows in the chapel feature the Scientology cross and Dianetics and Scientology symbols on either side. The flanking white oak paneling was handcarved in 1890. The chapel is the setting for Sunday Services, weddings and other Scientology ceremonies.

During that same period, the world was still recovering from the most destructive war in man’s history. The mounting cold war permeated all levels of society with fear.

Mr. Hubbard realized that in an intensely materialistic world, there was little hope for man if he did not begin to understand himself and his own motives.

Having discovered fundamental truths which offered man happiness, rationality and ability, Mr. Hubbard chose the nation’s capital to be the site of the Founding Church. In those beginning days of the Founding Church, Mr. Hubbard himself served as Executive Director until 1959.

Since that time, the Founding Church of Scientology Washington, D.C. has had tens of thousands of people walk through its doors, with a membership that is continuously increasing.

The Church is housed in the fully restored Fraser Mansion, a magnificent building originally erected in 1890.

We believe that man is only as valuable as he can serve others, and it is in this spirit that we are here for our parishioners who come to receive Scientology services, as well as for the community. We want to share our church and look forward to participating in civic and community events and activities together.

You are always welcome at the Founding Church of Scientology.

We are open 9am-10pm Monday-Friday and 9am-6pm Saturday & Sunday. Call us at (202) 797-9826 for more information.
